Lieutenant Douglas Miller has been with the Montgomery County Police Department for over 21 years and has been Deputy Director of the Special Operations Division since November 2022. During that time, he has
- Managed the Canine Unit and the Operational Support Section which includes the Managed Search Operations Team, Special Events Response Team (Public Order Team), and the Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) program.
- Been Program Manager of the UAS program. Currently overseeing the expansion of the program from 5 UAS pilots to 17 pilots and the related training needed to implement this program. Assisting with the creation/implementation of the department's Drone as First Responder program.
- Served as the Director of the Homeland Security Section. Participated in the Montgomery County Emergency Management Group. Acted as the primary leadership representative for Emergency Support Function #13 for the Emergency Operations Center run by Montgomery County's Office of Emergency Management and Homeland Security.
Previously, as Deputy Commander of the Wheaton District (4th District) from January 2022 through November 2022, he:
- Managed the overall daily operations of approximately 40 employees assigned to uniform patrol, covert Special Assignment Team, and the uniformed District Community Action Team.
- Developed partnerships with community and business stakeholders to address concerns in the Olney / Glenmont / Ashton neighborhoods to include violent crimes, traffic safety, and quality of life issues.
- Liaised with the Montgomery County Public Schools to mitigate any concerns arising from critical incidents at MCPS High Schools in the Wheaton District. Wheaton District has 6 large high schools in the district.
As Sergeant, from August 2014 through January 2022, Lt. Miller was Sworn Supervisor of the Year in 2019.
Lt. Miller has also served as a Field Training Officer and Supervisor. The Lieutenant is a graduate of the George Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice/Police Science.
